Sourcing local and seasonal produce from
the UK comes with beneficial factors; it supports British farmers and producers
and reduces food miles and the associated carbon emissions. British produce is
said to be in danger, with more of the population buying imported goods. By
globalising our produce we are entailing a much higher social and environmental
upheaval, which is therefore more costly to carry out. The most powerful
solution to this would be to make the change by ‘going local’ and supporting
local food systems whether it be within your community or on a national scale.
“The responsibility for changing the fate
of dwindling British produce lies with the consumer”. – James Martin, The Great
British Food Revival
